The Bureau is working alongside 15 non-residential venues to provide a complimentary booking service - a fast and efficient way to secure accommodation for conferences and events in York.  As part of the service, the booking team will negotiate the best rates for the event, provide accommodation at convenient city centre or out of town locations, provide downloadable registration forms and an up to date rooming list of all attending delegates.

York Conference Showcase 2007
The 2007 date for York Conference Showcase has been announced. For the fourth year running, York will be showcasing its extensive range of conference venues to a nationwide audience on March 29th 2007 at York Racecourse.

Forty of the city's venues, including hotels, more unusual venues, academic venues and conference support suppliers will put on an exhibition at the York Racecourse for conference buyers from across the UK.  It is hoped that over 100 conference organisers and buyers will attend.

The showcase has been organised to raise the profile of York as a quality conference destination and to persuade conference buyers that the city has so much to offer, combining exceptional transport links with unusual historic venues, high quality hotels, stately homes and stunning modern complexes.  York is ideally placed for conference business in the UK halfway between London and Edinburgh and has excellent road, rail and air transport links.

Conference or meetings organisers who would like to attend the event can register at www.conferenceyork.com.

The award winning company, which already has a number of hotels in other university and cathedral cities including Bristol and Birmingham are creating a four star plus luxury hotel in the former Georgian headquarters of York based Shepard Homes, on The Mount.   This is only the second hotel in the north for the Hotel Du Vin group - the first opened in Harrogate in 2003.

The re-vamp of the two storey grade 2 listed building will involve the renovation of the interior and a new baroque style courtyard complex alongside it worth an estimated £9 million. Yorkshire Air Museum secures second major seminar contract
The Mercia Group, of Leicester, have become the second major training seminar provider to book multiple sessions at the Yorkshire Air Museum.

Following the success of two earlier courses, a further 10 bookings have been made by the group for the latter part of 2006 and extending into 2007. This builds upon the existing relationship that the Air Museum has with SMART Training, who has run accountancy seminars at the Museum on a monthly basis for the past two and a half years. Attendance and retention levels have increased significantly since the move from hotel based venues - these seminars utilise the flexible nature of the museum's corporate function room, which can be easily adapted for theatre, cabaret or, as in the case of these events, classroom style set up and benefit from the ample free parking at the museum.

What will you find at DIG?
The creators of the famous attraction JORVIK have now turned their trowels to a new project - DIG, a brand new attraction that will take visitors on an archaeological adventure through 2000 years of York's history. Funded by the Millennium Lottery Commission, DIG is a £1 million development that combines an exciting visitor experience with an innovative corporate event offer.

DIG is all about having a go at archaeology. Visitors should be ready to grab a trowel and get their hands dirty excavating real artefacts in four reconstructed trenches from Roman, Viking, Medieval, and Victorian York.

The design team from JORVIK have worked closely with CityChallenge, a specialist team building company, to develop off-the-shelf and tailor-made professional training packages - combining teamwork and archaeology with historical sites in York. DIG also offers an alternative setting for an event, launch, meeting, or a staff day or night outing, providing contemporary and themed catering alternatives to order.

DIG, owned by York Archaeological Trust, strengthens the Trust's position as a high quality venue provider for clients looking for an event with a difference. JORVIK already offers unusual Viking Feasts (with your own team of Vikings to entertain you all evening!), and prestigious Viking themed evening receptions in the attraction.  For further information and bookings from April 2006, visit www.digyork.co.uk or Tel: 01904 543425.
