Lord Robert Winston launches Sheffield conference ambassador programme

Yorkshire South Tourism, the organisation responsible for raising the profile of Sheffield as a conference destination, has joined forces with Sheffield Hallam University to launch a new drive to attract more national and international events to the city.

The aim is to create a network of passionate and motivated 'conference ambassadors' to promote Sheffield as a venue for events, conferences and meetings.

There are good reasons to promote Sheffield as the place for events. Using the ambassadors' expertise and contacts, combined with the experience of staff at YST and Conference 21, both city and university are well equipped to host any event, whether next month, next year, or even further ahead.

“Working in partnership with organisations such as Conference 21, we can offer a comprehensive one-stop event management service that includes budget management, advice on venues, design of visual identity, on-line submission and refereeing of conference papers, on-line registration and hotel bookings, social and partner programmes, and exhibition arrangements”.

Richard Jones, Chief Executive Yorkshire South Tourism

It's worth noting that by hosting their professional society or association meeting in their city, ambassadors can raise the profile of both their specialist subject area and their standing within it. Hosting an event also boosts the image of the ambassador's organisation or institution, as well as enhancing the image of the university, Sheffield and the surrounding area.

The University's Chancellor Professor the Lord Winston is supporting the ambassador programme. He says:

'As Chancellor one of my roles is to advance the interests of the university and the city where I can. Sheffield is a fantastic place which is changing fast, not least in its ability to cater for world class major events. If you are a member of an association or a professional society, why not bid to bring your next event to Sheffield Hallam University? Sheffield's ambassador programme will support you all the way to organise a successful event. Be passionate about what you do, about the university and about Sheffield and help us encourage these events to our city.'
