Record visitor numbers for Conference Facilities at National Coal Mining Museum
The National Coal Mining Museum for England smashed its previous highest visitor
numbers during 2007/8, with over 135,000 people taking advantage of the facilities
available. Figures for the Museum’s unique conference facilities totalled over
10,000. 2007/8 was the Museum’s most successful year to date scooping the Yorkshire Tourist
Board's White Rose Award for Tourism Attraction of the Year (50,000 visitors and
over) and the Business of the Year Award at the First Wakefield District Business Awards.
The Museum received rave reviews from visitors, with 99% of visitors saying they
would recommend the Museum to others and 98% saying they would visit again. The
average ‘dwell’ time for visitors at the Museum has increased on previous years,
with over 70% spending at least 3 hours exploring the site.
Visitor figures increased across the board, with 10,000 people taking advantage
of the Museum’s unique conference facilities. The Museum offers excellent facilities
for daytime and evening events. Conference facilities accommodate both large and
small functions. The Caphouse Suite seats up to 200 delegates or divides into
three, each seating up to 50. The latest high-tech presentation aids are available.
