Sheffield's Hotel Smart
Rapid investment is taking place in Sheffield ’s 4 Star product with key hotels making their mark in the city’s venue portfolio.

The centrally located Novotel has just completed the second stage of its ambitious refurbishment programme. The stylish new lobby, bar area and restaurant are now completed as are a suite of contemporary Novation bedrooms. The latest addition is the stylish suite of conference facilities which seat up to 220 delegates.

Sheffield Park Hotel has invested £3.5 million in a push to upgrade the hotel to a four star deluxe venue. Situated on the outskirts of the city the hotel enjoys great access from South Yorkshire and the Peak District as well as the city centre and caters for up to 500 delegates.

Hilton Sheffield, with its peaceful quayside location, has recently refurbished its conference facilities, restaurant and bar, and plans for 2006 include an investment of almost £1/2 million into its bedroom stock.

Sheffield Proud to Host 'Forgemasters' Conference
The International Forgemasters Conference has been confirmed in Sheffield for October 2006 and the city is delighted. 350 delegates from all over the world will converge on Sheffield at the famous Cutlers’ Hall as the event returns to the UK for the first time in many years. Emma France, Sheffield Conference Bureau said “We’re really excited to welcome such a large contingent of international delegates to Sheffield. Given our history of innovation in steel production it is great not only that they have chosen Sheffield but that it will take place in Cutlers’ Hall, home to the Cutlers’ Company and centuries of Sheffield’s industrial heritage”

Sheffield Park Hotel
With over half of our bedrooms already refurbished (all rooms to be completed June 2006) we now have a level of accommodation unique within the Sheffield area. All our rooms will include air conditioning, laptop safes, mini bar, iron with board, large desks, broadband internet connections and most important of all, seriously comfortable beds as standard!
Now we are proud to announce the next stages of development.
Working with Charles Leon Associates we have re-imagined and designed the ground floor areas giving the Sheffield Park Hotel a new public identity of which we are proud.  The Bar will undergo a complete transformation from 9th January 2006, to realise a new concept and so give a contemporary, flexible and social setting with a unique character for both daytime and evening. The lofty space will be distinctive with new bespoke furniture and a dramatic feature bar in mirror and polished timber.
At the same time the hotel’s meeting and function rooms will be transformed and modernised, creating a series of multifunctional spaces for corporate events, conferences, banqueting, weddings and other functions. The Hadfield Suite’s new image of pure, contemporary warmth will be complemented with exciting, abstract colour artworks inspired by Sheffield’s steel working heritage. The Devonshire Suite will become a chic, elegant multifunction space with a natural theme. A palette of green and cream shades is balanced by stylish commissioned canvases.
Last but certainly not least work on the Leisure Club will commence on 30th January 2006 and see the arrival of escape, Pedersen Hotels Health and Fitness concept. Our superb pool, spa and gym, our fully qualified staff and cool contemporary setting ensure a calm, unpressured environment.
The refurbishment program will be completed by June 2006. If you would like to see any of our plans or find out how the new Sheffield Park Hotel can work with you in 2006 please contact me Ivar van Diepen, General Manager on 0114 282 9988 or call in any time.

Buyers Get Satisfaction from Sheffield
Sheffield enlisted the help of veteran rockers the Rolling Stones at this year’s International Confex show.
Buyers were keen to register to win a luxury VIP weekend to see the Rolling Stones perform at the Don Valley Stadium, one of only four UK dates included in the band’s 2006 tour.
The city was also highly commended for its “£250 million” marketing campaign, which saw staff from Sheffield Conference Bureau and partners handing out “banknotes” for £250 million to represent the amount of ongoing investment into hotels and conference facilities.
Business tourism is already worth an estimated £155 million to the city, and since this figure was compiled by the Conference Bureau two more showpiece venues have been added to Sheffield’s offering. Late 2005 saw the completion of a massive refurbishment of the historic Sheffield City Hall, and the opening of the city centre’s first four star deluxe hotel, Macdonald St Paul’s Hotel Sheffield.
Emma France, Sheffield Conference Bureau, said: “There was a real buzz about Sheffield this year. The fact that the Rolling Stones are stopping here on their world tour shows how our venues, and the city, are growing in reputation. The enormous amount of regeneration is creating a city centre which is vibrant and attractive to residents and visitors alike. We have more to offer conference buyers than ever before.”
Partners for the show were Sheffield International Venues, including Sheffield City Hall; Conference 21 at Sheffield Hallam University; The University of Sheffield; Macdonald St Paul’s Hotel; spinsheffield.com; Hospitality Sheffield and Sheffield-based tdc Ltd, specialists in audio visual technical support and project management.
The event also saw the launch of Sheffield’s 2006 Conference Directory, listing more venues than ever before. The launch was supported by Tony Rogers, Chief Executive of the British Association of Conference Destinations BACD and APBCPO.
