About the Venue

The museum site with its historic colliery buildings date back to the 19th century, exhibitions displays and unique underground tour make it an outstanding location. Ideal for all types of conferences, seminars, product launches, presentations, corporate teambuilding adventure days and outdoor promotions, training evenings and private parties.
The museums conference facilities, in light airy rooms, have been designed to offer maximum flexibility for large and small functions. The Caphouse suite has capacity of up to 200 delegates theatre style, or the room can be divided up into 3, each section seating up to 50 theatre style. Each room, named after local pits, offers the very latest high tech visual presentation aids, multiple external data and power points as well as standard conferencing equipment. The excellent catering facilities can provide everything from a light finger buffet to a full three course meal and it has a fully licensed bar.
The site provides a unique location for corporate adventure days. These have been specifically designed around a mining theme and concentrates on team building, problem solving and communication skills.
Also available on site is the tour of the underground workings exploring the hidden world of coal 140 meters below the surface, with a former miner as your guide. Alternatively relax and enjoy the surface attractions at the museum.

    Nearest main road: M1/M642
    From the North:
    Directions from this road: Leave the M1 at junction 40 (A638) towards Wakefield, take the first right after the traffic lights (Broadway). The Malt Shovel pub will be on your right. At the end of Braodway turn right onto the A642 to Horbury and Huddersfield. Stay on this road for approx 5 miles through Horbury Bridge and Middlestown. The museum is on the right.
    From the South:
    Leave the M1 at junction 38 (A637) and stay on this road through West Bretton and Flockton. At the roundabout at the Blacksmith's Arms take the third exit towards Horbury (A642). The Museum is about 2 miles from here on the left.

    From Wakefield/Huddersfield bus stations the Yorkshire Traction 232 bus stops at the Reindeer pub, with a short walk downhill to the Museum.
